Mark Carney's War Bank

 

Hi Christopher,   Earlier this month, the government proposed what they’re calling a “Defense, Security and Resilience Bank”. If that sounds technocratic and reassuring, I’m sorry to say it’s not.     This is an international War Bank.     One that: Doubles down on militarizing our economy  Sidesteps transparency and public scrutiny  Binds us even more tightly to the US defense-industrial complex   Canada doesn’t need a War Bank designed to enrich American weapons contractors. We don’t need to hand our public dollars to war profiteers, and we don’t need to tie ourselves to Donald Trump’s seemingly endless assault on global stability and international law.     What we do need are the public servants and services that keep us safe and secure in our everyday lives. Sadly, this government would rather cut food inspectors, climate scientists, and farming researchers to pay for an international investment bank specializing in warfare.    We can’t let this happen, Christopher. Please sign and share the petition below to put an end to this War Bank before it goes into business.     Stop the War Bank   Mark Carney pledged to reduce our military integration with the United States. With this proposal, he not only seeks to expand it, but seeks to do so outside of the public eye.     Military budgeting and procurement decisions ought to be made by Parliament. If this War Bank happens, many of those decisions will be made behind closed doors at a shadowy institution led by American finance giants like JPMorgan Chase. In all likelihood, weapons manufacturers like Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, and Raytheon will be at the table too.     We could be investing in a Green New Deal that would create a million good green jobs.
