bill bissett visiting B.C.

Carl  Peters, bill bissett, Ron Dart

We were fortunate to have Bill Bisset visit The Reach Gallery and Museum in Abbotsford on Saturday September 28 2013. Bill, faithful to historic form, read from a variety of
his poems and novels, in an animated, dramatic and insightful way. The hour dashed by faster than rastabelle rabbits. Bill was, as anticipated, gracious, warm yet challenging in his poetic vision---images collided with images, and we were taken on an ever unfolding inner journey and an, almost prophetic-like outer journey into the major ecological and political issues of our time. Bill combines, in an intergrated way, the best of the classical humanist way and does so through an artistic and visual medium.

We were also fortunate to have Carl Peters with us. Carl teaches in the English Department at University of the Fraser Valley (Abbotsford) and Carl's recent book on Bissett, "textual vishyuns: image and text in the work of bill bissett" explores the often neglected visual arts in Bisset's artistic journey. Carl is arranging, in the Spring of 2014, a conference on Bissett at The Reach Galley and Museum. Carl is also contributing an article on Bissett-Acorn for the forthcoming book from Mosaic Press on Milton Acorn.
