We’ve got a lot cooking in the back office of MessyNessy’s Cabinet at all times, and people often ask me how I manage. To be honest, I’m marinating in mess. I don’t even keep a planner (though I absolutely should). Here’s an idea of what’s on our stove… | It’s Paris haute couture week here, when all the fun and chaos ensues naturellement. So when CÉLINE called at the 11th hour, I suddenly found myself with 24 hours to create a teaser for their fashion show (which of course I couldn’t actually attend because I was solo parenting my kids this weekend). And that’s the main reason why I’m 48 hours late to your inbox this week. | But let’s see, what else … we’re also about to serve up collections with two different French fashion houses. I’m desperately trying to get another book off the ground too, all the while, running a brick & mortar shop, its events and my most important role as Maman. | I often hold on to those words from the patron saint of cool, Tilda Swinton : | “I am a great friend of chaos. It’s all we have … this whole concept of being able to manage life… life is risk, life is chance, life is being open to chance. The best things in my life, and probably in anybody’s life, come out of being open to being blown off course.” | So here’s to making friends with the chaos! Spend a few minutes with the Opossum Lady, watch some Agnès Varda or hide from the world in this miniature mermaid’s dollhouse if you need to. Wine can help too (but no more than a litre a day). | Try not to overcomplicate and remember, things could be worse. At least you’re not tasked with burying an entire museum or entrusted with continuing a family business of public executions. | Take it from me, embrace the Wild Cards of life and try leaving things entirely up to chance on your next trip to Paris. | Last but not least, your weekly random distractions are waiting for you, all 13 of them. | Stay curious, | Nessy | PS. | | Oh, Just a Miniature Mermaid's Dollhouse | This is one of those slightly random finds that I was about to throw in with my Monday series of 13 Things I Found on the Internet Today, but then I looked closer (rubbed my eyes in disbelief a little), and realised it definitely needed its very own post. | www.messynessychic.com/2015/10/05/oh-just-a-miniature-mermaids-dollhouse |
| | How to Introduce Agnès Varda to the Next Generation | Agnès Varda throughout her career was seen as belonging to the older generation. A pioneering photographer, writer, filmmaker and artist, at the beginning of her career and at barely 30 years old, she became known as the “grandmother of the New Wave.” But Varda was the cool kind of grandmother… | www.messynessychic.com/2023/11/30/how-to-introduce-agnes-varda-to-the-next-generation |
