from Dogwood News:
Chris,
Buckle up. This is not the plot of a Hollywood movie — this is the true story of what’s happening in northern B.C.
Wet’suwet’en chiefs say an American army general is using strategies developed in the global “war on terror” against Indigenous people and their allies here in Canada.
Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co. is a huge private equity firm on Wall Street. In 2019, KKR announced it was buying a majority share of the Coastal GasLink pipeline.
The firm is so big, it has its own “internal CIA” dedicated to neutralizing financial risks for companies they own, including pipelines. This private intelligence agency is run by David Petraeus, a retired four-star army general and former director of the CIA.
Don’t let an American general swoop in and use military tactics on peaceful civilians here in B.C. Chip in now to expose Coastal GasLink and the parent company calling the shots.
Petraeus is the godfather of the U.S. military’s counterinsurgency doctrine. He was their top commander in Iraq and Afghanistan, specializing in buying off tribal leaders – and training local police and military units to fight on behalf of the U.S.
After KKR bought the Coastal GasLink pipeline, Wet’suwet’en land defenders say security contractors largely replaced the RCMP on their territory. In fact, they allege the police are colluding with and, it appears, taking direction from private security.
Who are these shadowy contractors surveilling Wet’suwet’en families, gathering intelligence and calling in arrests? We can confirm they include ex-police and soldiers from war zones all around the world.
But hey still need the RCMP for “kinetic operations”: kicking in doors, brandishing guns and putting people in handcuffs. And that’s a role the RCMP have embraced with gusto. In fact, it’s what they trained Afghan police to do under General Petraeus.
The Gold Commander of the RCMP’s controversial pipeline unit was NATO’s top police advisor in Afghanistan during Petraeus’ command. And the C-IRG unit’s tactical troop sergeant in charge of arrests is a former tank commander who also trained Afghan cops to go after insurgents.
Indigenous people are not “insurgents”. These are families trying to live peacefully on their own land, facing an invasion led by a foreign corporation. Chip in to expose Coastal GasLink and their ex-military security team.
The real criminals are the people trespassing and damaging Wet’suwet’en lands, without consent from the title holders. And they need to be held accountable.
It’s time for KKR to get their fracked gas pipeline off Wet’suwet’en territory and focus their investments on projects with a future, like renewable energy. Donate what you can to pry loose their cold grip on B.C. and make Coastal GasLink history.
Kai
P.S. The Wet’suwet’en traditional government is being undermined and attacked by some of the most powerful forces in the world. Don’t let an American general swoop in and use military tactics on peaceful civilians here in B.C. Donate what you can right now to expose this story.
Thanks for all you do,
