Dr. J,
Thanks for sending this article. Further to our dinner conversation of this aft:
Yeah, that may be the same poll results I read about a while back. Sad, as Trudeau's failure as PM will almost certainly just lead to the yin/yang Tweedledee/Ttweedledum swing back to the Tories. Almost no one even knows what Scheer looks like or what his policies are, and yet he leads this poll for most trusted PM candidate : )
Trudeau may have cut his own throat by killing electoral reform. First past the post voting ensures the continuance of this moribund and dysfunctional 2 party system. If we had electoral reform, with ranking of first-second-third choices, etc. - there's a better chance we'd finally overcome our 2 party system to make it more representative of the wants and hopes of Canuck voters.
Mark thinks this is the way democracy is supposed to work - swinging back and forth between the left and the right, from the conservative Conservative Party (reactionaries in my book) to the marginally more progressive party policies of the neo-liberal (capitalist sucks in my book) Liberals. What scares me is the thought that one day the pendulum will swing too far right to correct itself with a backswing, and we'll end up with a Trump or a Hitler as Kanadian PM. Guess we already have a Trump junior with Doug Ford heading Ontario.
Trudeau is hated by all my blue collar neighbours, and they thoughtlessly hate him and his "feminism" from the right. They think he's an incompetent sissy boy. Sylvia and I dislike him from the left - he reneged on his campaign promise of electoral reform soon after being elected. And in this time of impending global climate disaster, he's bought an oil pipeline for billions of taxpayer dollars. He hasn't lived up to his promises to First Nations either, altho he recently pledged millions to some international charity (remember, Justin, charity begins at home). Who can like this dude? Lots of hollow promises of "sunny ways" but no follow through or consistency of leadership.
think I'll post this . . .

I was taken aback by your thought that Justin wouldn’t have another turn, but the polls clearly suggest that.

That stunk to high heaven. The excuse that the majority of voters didn’t want it was lame at best.

Well Canada could go fascist in the blink of an eye. Harper had a disturbing shot at it, and did some serious damage, but he defo won’t be the last.

Jordon Peterson, the new alt-right poster boy, has characterized Justin as somebody who is a kind of Peter Pan. On the other hand, Peterson didn’t get tenure at Harvard … maybe he wasn’t grown up enough? Go figure.

Now that’s just insane. Justin-sane? Woo hoo.

It will indeed be an interesting election. Canada … a lot of great shit and a lot of not so great shit. Beats Syria in any case.
