Dear Peter:
Many thanks for the photos. What a great event!
I'm very pleased with the plaque; it's light and
full of good cheer for two great poets who found
a moment to make common cause--and love--in
a great location. I don't diminish them by thinking
of them as our splendid (and semi-happier) versions
of Ted Hughes and Sylvia Plath. I hope that we can
take a collective step forward by linking the idea of
the marriage license and--ahem--poetic (!) license
by having a Love Poetry Festival annually in
honour of Milton and Gwendolyn on Wards Island.
I'm cc-ing the league of Canadian Poets here to
encourage the idea.
Warmly,
George!
