The Assassin: eff off February (Katherine L. Gordon)

The Assassin

Farewell you grief of February
cold-gnashed bones,
lip demarcation  of chattered teeth,
ice-age axe-hack on tattooed survivors,
eaves crushed under stalactite  burdens,
water on stone carving screams,
birds executed on frozen waters
for the crime of immigration.
We are all refugees now
unprepared for the lash of climate
energy prices, dwindling food-stores,
the weep of sapless trees, battered bush.
What will arise from this wilderness?
A brotherhood not likely in hardened hearts
that love and tears once melted.
Cling to April vision, season of tax and penitence,
the cost is too ice-mountain high
for a slather of oiled remedies,
politicians and prophets seek a sacrifice.

Penultimate day of February, 2015.
