RETRO (fierce February 2014) - Katherine L. Gordon

Retro

When I was young
the earth was green
those intermittent winters
no more than the pang of cold
that was the gap between stockings
and lacy black garter belt,
just an interlude before the heat
a stirring of grass and flowers
always part of the smooth of skin,
warm mugs hot hands fever of doing.
Now in a sweatered time
I cannot conjure summer
even apples are russet and small,
roads meet in pebbled roundabouts
no place for unsure feet,
if I leap into carouselled time
will I meet my life-brimmed self
wandering in that mist of maze?
