poem for a two year old

poem for a two year old

smile a Buddha smile
while star systems form
synapses crackle clusters
tickling consciousness into being

laugh inwardly with awakening
as your new body prepares
a fresh life and time

but beware - this is the realm
of man
and it is not kind

learn lessons from clear rivers
songs from wind washed leaves
alphabets will grow for you
in rough tree bark

fish will smile for you
birds teach you tricks of flight
but you must not tell them
quiet, be quiet
and still

the humans know nothing
know not how to dream
no magic in unlighted minds

seek Buddhas and Bodhisattvas
as they will seek you

be still and smile
your two year old smile
secretly create universes
in your tickling mind
this world needs wisdom

needs you
